Smartphones Shipments Surpass One billion this year,grows by 39% YoY

Smartphone  shipments across the Globe is now  estimated to surpass and exceed one billion in 2013.According to the latest IDC report from Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, worldwide smartphone shipments are expected to surpass 1.0 billion units in 2013, representing 39.3% growth over 2012

The catalyst for  the sharp increase in Smartphone has to do with lower prices and  lower cost of  replacement  .As Smartphones start replacing feature phones specially in the "BRIC countries.The number of Smartphones is expected to get a huge fillip led by demand for low-cost computing in emerging markets

The average price of Smartphones has come down, to $337 in 2013  as compared to $387 in 2012 which is a decline of -12.8%  as per IDC data

With falling prices of Handsets along with along with a shortened  PLC ( product Life cycle) ..Smartphones will see increasing penetration in the time to come

By 2017, total smartphone shipments are expected to approach 1.7 billion units, resulting in a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.4% from 2013 to 2017.
