Used iPhones Set to Cannibalize New iPhone Sales by 28%,

Used iPhones May Cannibalize Sales by 28%, Says Bernstein - Tech Trader Daily - Barrons.com: "Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi today follows up on research he offered two weeks ago regarding the market for used smartphones, which he believes is “exploding.”

Today, he digs deeper into implications for Apple (AAPL) and its iPhone.

In this second installment, Sacconaghi, projecting the smartphone market to rise from 53 million phones sold annually to 257 million units over the next five years, he notes “iPhones are the most popular resold smartphone today, amounting to over 50% of units, highlighting the importance of the evolution of the used market to Apple.”

Sacconaghi writes that “cannibalization” of new iPhone sales by the resale market is low at the moment, at 20% of annual sales, perhaps, per year, but that it is set to increase “significantly“:"
