40 million Indians now have Smartphone, 50% of them are under 25

According to research firm Nielsen, Indians are increasingly taking to smartphones and the
number of such devices in the country stood at 40 million in 2012. And almost 50 per cent of
smartphone users are below the age of 25 years.

 This is an increase of  13million from 2012 . According to Neilsen research conducted last year there were 27 million Smart phone users in Urban India. This means that Indian smartphone usage has gone up by 48%

India is a unique market where  voice calls and messaging account for only 25 per cent of
smartphone usage whereas multimedia, games, applications and internet browsing command
65 per cent share. The above data also shows Indians are moving from feature phones to smartphones rapidly.
